What is mental health? Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Mental health is essential to us because it helps us handle stress and make decisions daily, and mental health is significant at every age of our lives. Why are most people suffering from mental health problems? There are a lot of factors that cause mental health problems for every person even students. In this article, I will be talking about the effects of having mental health problems and the factors that affect them.

Mental health problems are caused by having too much stress, childhood trauma or abuse, and discrimination. These effects are some of the problems causing bad mental health.

The most common symptom of having bad mental health is stress. Stress symptoms may be affecting your health and mental health without realizing it. It can lead to having sleep problems, fatigue, and even depression. You can lessen your stress by taking care of yourself such as having regular physical activity, spending time with your family or some people that are important to you, and learning some breathing techniques or meditation.

Having childhood trauma or abuse can also cause mental health problems. Trauma is caused by dealing with physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, etc. Because of this, children are having difficulty expressing themselves, are hard at managing emotions, and cannot communicate well with others. Having someone on their side can help them to heal faster. Someone who can understand and validate their feelings, someone who can take care of them to help them forget the trauma. Someone on their side must know what’s the cause and when the trauma triggers. Be emotionally and physically available, encourage them to do positive things like playing with the other children, and also help the child to relax.

Discrimination can also be the reason why many people are having mental health problems. Experiencing discrimination can cause a lot of problems, especially in school. Many students tend to have negative attitudes towards teachers, low academic performance and increases the rate of being a dropout.
