Grim, captivating, and shocking are all words I would use to describe Tana French’s first novel. French’s first novel In The Woods came out in 2007 winning an Edgar Award! I read this book during the summer and I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Kids are always rowdy and energetic, so what better way for kids in the small Dublin suburbs to relieve some of their energy than by exploring the woods? However, one day, three kids go missing, and one is only found with no memory of it. What will the town do? Why was there only one kid found? Do they end up finding the mystery behind the missing kids? The suspense and the way the book makes you question everything is what I like about it. I find it very captivating and would recommend reading it to fans of fictional crime with no violence. If you are a fan of suspense too, then you should read this book!
