The break-in and fire at the Oxnard School District headquarters (as reported by the Ventura County Star) occurred on September 19, 2020. The incident took place around 4:15 a.m. when the security alarm was set off and resulted in an employee going to the site to check it out. The employee then confirmed to have seen a suspicious unknown person in the building.

As officers responded to the scene they began to notice smoke caused by a small fire. The fire was in a separate storage building where they store district records. The motive is still unclear and under investigation by authorities. The break-in took place in two parts of the building which included broken windows in both the main building and the storage building. So far, the crime is still under investigation with suspects to be determined. However, it is believed to be an arson incident. What we do know is that it was a male suspect; however, he was not detained.

The fire caused very minimal damage to the building. The fire set off sprinklers that kept the fire under control. However, it may have caused potential damage to records. The fire had the potential to get large due to the fact that it was a two-story building, but luckily, they got it under control.
