River Monsters

River Monsters

Christina Grba

River Monsters is a documentary series on animal planet starring the British biologist and extreme angler Jeremy Wade. It follows Jeremy Wade to bodies of water, (mostly rivers), where he conducts investigations to find the river monsters who have been terrorizing people in the area. For example, the first episode of the 9 seasons long series was about piranhas. Jeremy explored the man-eating reputation of piranhas to see if it was really deserved. Within the show, Jeremy has traveled all across the world including places like Africa, Asia, South America, North America, the UK, and more. The investigations that Jeremy conducts when he travels to these places include investigating the sudden disappearances of tourists, locals, and local fishermen in the area. Jeremy also takes you into the world of the people who have adapted to living in the water. He shows the native tribes that live in the area he’s visiting and gives them a platform to speak about their vast knowledge of the fish in the water.

In the series, Jeremy Wade has caught more monsters than I can count. He’s encountered killer catfish, aggressive piranha, and the giant arapaima, (air-a-pie-mu). A good example of a river monster that Jeremy caught is the tigerfish. This is just one of the many giant fish that Jeremy has caught on the show.

The biggest river monster that Jeremy has ever caught was a pregnant freshwater stingray.

In my opinion, this show is brilliant. It takes you on an adventure into the world of river monsters and the people who coexist with them. It shows you just how scary and fascinating rivers and their inhabitants really are. I highly recommend you watch the show and see for yourself the amazing things that Jeremy Wade does and all the amazing places he travels to.
