A healthy person sneezes about an average of 4 times a day. A sneeze could happen for certain reasons. For example, allergies, illness, being too full, or even seeing a bright light may cause someone to sneeze. A sneeze is you expelling foreign particles and irritants from your nasal cavity and is a protective reflex. But have you ever wondered why people say “bless you” after you sneeze? Some people say it is because whenever you sneeze, your heart stops and it is a way for people to keep you safe, but it was actually a phrase people said all the way back to the 14th century when the plague was widespread. Pope Gregory VII stated that “god bless you”should be a short prayer said after every sneeze as a way to protect you from the plague. Ever since then it became a tradition by everyone to bless someone to good health whenever someone sneezes as a sign of kindness.
