Tepache, a Typical Mexican Beverage
December 6, 2019
Tepache is a fermented beverage originated from Mexico made from pineapple peels. It is sweetened by adding brown sugar and seasoned by adding cinnamon powder. It dates back to the pre-Columbus Mexico, it was a popular drink among the Nahua people of central Mexico. In modern-day Mexico, tepache is usually sold as a chilled drink by street vendors. Tepache is stored in barrels to make the fermentation process faster. In the United States, it can be bought in juice jars or at a traditional Mexican restaurant. It can also be made at home since the fermentation process is simple and quick.
