  • Butterflies taste through their feet.
  • Butterflies are insects in the macrolepidopteran clade Rhopalocera from the order Lepidoptera.
  •  They can live up to 12 months.
  • There are about 17,500 species of butterflies in the world and around 750 species in the United States.
  • Butterflies drink from mud puddles.
  • Butterflies can’t fly if they’re cold less than 86 degrees.
  • Butterfly wings are transparent.
  • An adult butterfly will eventually emerge from the chrysalis where it will wait a few hours for its wings to fill with blood and dry, before flying for the first time.
  • There are between 15000 and 20000 different species of butterflies.
  • Butterflies range in size from a tiny 1/8 inch to a huge almost 12 inches.
