The Kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard

Jessica Palomares, Contributor

On June 10, 1991, eleven-year-old Jaycee Dugard was on her way to her school bus stop in her South Lake Tahoe, California neighborhood when all of sudden a man and a woman kidnapped her from the street. Jaycee’s stepfather was riding his bike nearby and witnessed the scene. Regardless of his description of the car and the kidnappers the case went cold. Then in August 2009, a strange man visited the University of California, Berkley campus with two young girls in tow. His strange behavior led to a report and investigation. The man was Philip Garrido, he was a sex offender and the man that kidnapped Jaycee Dugard. During the 18 years that she was kidnaped, she had given birth to two daughters by Garrido. Garrido and his wife Nancy were arrested and convicted by kidnapping, imprisonment, and sexual assault.
