The ouija is used as a method of supposed communication with the spirit world. The ouija board is known as the tool of the devil or also the spirit board or talking board. Ouija boards have their roots in Spiritualism, which began in the United States in the late 1840s. These types of talking boards became very popular in 1890.

When using the ouija board there’s a piece all participants put their hands on which is called the planchette. It is a small piece of wood or metal. The theory is that spiritual forces will push people’s fingers on the planchette towards particular letters and numbers to spell messages and communicate from the dead to the living. In 2014, there was a movie put out called Ouija based on this board.
