atkatalina Martinez is a counselor here at Hueneme high School for ESL/Foster / Migrant, as well as our basketball girls coach.

1.Why did you choose this career?

-Because I wanted to work with youth in more of a mentor ship role.

2.Did you always wanted to do it?

– No, I started interested in law enforcement and after 3 years I left to do this job.

3.What’s the biggest satisfaction that you have received trough out the years?

– I think it’s seen them grown as people and helping them through life changing decisions.

4.Can us as students trust you counselors?

– Well, mostly everything is confidential, somethings must be reported. We are mandatory reporters.

5.Do you consider that this career was your best decision? Why?

– Yes, because I feel that I’m able to reach students, stay communicated with them, and I’m able to provide support.

6.If you could change something about our school, what would it be? Why?

– I would have more services like mental health services, and support ones to help more students.

7.Do you see yourself doing this until your old, and retired?

– Yes, but I can work only 15 years more.

8.What places have you visited in the world?

– I can tell you some; Hawaii, Costa Rica, Italy, France, Ireland, Mexico of course, and other places that I do not remember right now.

9.What is your favorite and least favorite part of being a counselor?

– Getting to know different students and their personalities and communicated more like fill a report with them.

10.What do you do on your free time?

-Coach Basketball, nap, eat, and go into the ocean with any activity that’s involved with the ocean.

11.What is your favorite color? Why?

– My favorite color is green because its my birth stone and I like the combination between colors.

12.What is your favorite food? Why?

-I like ethic food, from different places and countries. Because I like to try new and different things.

13.What is your favorite sport? Why?

– Basketball, because I like the physically and strategy.

14.What is your favorite TV show? Why?

– I like Grey’s anatomy, I don’t know, it’s a good novela in English.

15.What is your favorite animal? Why?

– Horses, because they scare me and because once you get to know them you built trust.
