Suicide is the leading cause of death in the US, in 2016 there were 45,000 recorded suicides. The suicide rates have been at its highest since the 1990s.

In 2015, suicide was the 7th leading cause of death for males, and the 14th leading cause of death for females. Additionally, it was the 2nd leading cause of death for young adults ranging from ages 15-24, and the 3rd leading cause of death for children aged 10-14.

Men die by suicide 3.5x more often than women, women attempt suicide 1.2x more than men.

On average, there are 123 suicides per day.

A fire-arm is used 50% of the suicides recorded, suicide by poison 14%, and suicide by suffocation 26%.
