American Thanksgiving vs. Canadian Thanksgiving

American Thanksgiving vs. Canadian Thanksgiving

Maria Roque, Contributor

1. American Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November while Canadian Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday of October, which means that Canada celebrates before us.

2. When giving time off from school or work, Canada offers a three day weekend (Saturday-Monday) on the other hand here in the U.S a four day weekend is offered (Thursday-Sunday).

3. While in both countries they do the same activities, each of their Thanksgivings have a different significance. In Canada, they are thanking God that they will have a good harvest, in the U.S we thank God for the generosity of the Native Americans and thankful for those around us.

4. It is a national holiday celebrated in all 50 states of the U.S, but is optional in Atlantic Canada.

5. In Canada, there is no Black Friday, aka the day after Thanksgiving or Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving. Their biggest shopping day of the year is the day after Christmas, which they refer to as Boxing Day.
