If you recently just got a tattoo or are looking to get one, here are some tips that can prepare you to take care of & clean your tattoo.

Making sure that you pick a tattoo artist that’s clean is very important. If they use old or used needles, that can effect your tattoo and it has a  higher risk of getting infected.

After you get your tattoo its recommended to wait 2-3 hours to take off any bandages they may have given you.  Right after you remove the bandages, wash the tattooed area with warm water and mild fragrance-free soap. Once you have washed the tattoo, then pat dry the area gently.

It’s suggested to wash your new tattoo 3 times a day & more if the tattoo is on your hands, wrist, feet, or an area that can be exposed to germs for the first 3-5 days.

Now that the tattoo is cleaned, its time to apply a healing ointment. Apply a thin layer of the ointment or after care product of your choice, allowing the wound to breathe & heal. After approximately a week, you can switch to regular fragrance-free lotion.

In general it takes 2-3 weeks before you can go swimming or soak your tattoo. It also depends on factors like the size, location and how well you take care of the tattoo while its healing. On average, it can take a tattoo up to 6 months to heal.
