Chapter 1

I woke up to find myself lying on grass, surrounded by tall trees. Where am I? How did I get here? What happened to the Kingdom of Parelthon? Next to me, an angelic figure with knight’s armor appeared. On the other side, a shadowy, cloaked figure presented himself.

“Petrus,” the powerful angelic figure spoke, “you must seek the great Kingdom of Nobilis, for Parelthon only despair will it bring.”

“This was all Tenebris’s fault!” Petrus remarked pointing at the shadowy spirit. Tenebris gave his same soulless expression.

“Sometimes you’ll have to do bad actions in order to move forward. After all, you needed something to balance out your goodness, right Heros?” Tenebris said mocking the angel. “You can’t have too much of anything.”

“Ok…but what about the princess? Is she safe? Is she alright?”

Heros gave a concerned look.

“We are not sure how many souls you took away that night. One of them may have been your beloved.” Tenebris told him.

“No…it can’t be! I heard her! She was alive!”

“Petrus, have mercy,” Heros spoke, “Parelthon will not benefit you in any way at this point. You must move on to Nobilis. It will only harm you to keep your head in the past.”

The two figures disappeared and left me alone in the unknowns of Chasma, the forest that divides the kingdoms of Parelthon and Nobilis. Back in Parelthon, we would look down upon Nobilis because they were against war and would remain pacifist. They were the inferior kingdom and Parelthon was superior. It makes me feel disappointed that I have to go there, but it looks like I have no other option. It’s either the weak kingdom or a ruined kingdom, where I may forever be shunned.

I venture further inside the woods. I’ve never felt so alone. I had it all back in Parelthon. I was an honorable knight and I had a romance with the princess, Alejandra Flores. I lost everything in that night of annihilation. On my belt remained the Sword of Destruction, which transformed into the Sword of Balance thanks to Heros.

I kept strolling along and I found a person just sitting by a tree, rocking back and forth like a lunatic. Should I speak with them? No…..I listened to my conscience and continued on forward. How am I supposed to help out people if all I do is hurt people? I kept moving on and I didn’t bother checking how far I had actually gone. The sun was now rising from the East. Much to my surprise, the kingdom was now in range. I couldn’t wait to get there at this point; my feet were killing me.

“Petrus.”

I was startled by the noise

“What happened Heros?

“Remember that Nobilis is a pacifist Kingdom. No outside weapons are allowed.”

I grabbed my sword and handed it to Heros.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Tenebris spoke.

“Remind me again how your suggestions are better,” Heros responded

“Suit yourselves…”

By the time what seemed to be about noon, I finally arrived at the gates. I heard that Nobilis was 31 miles away from Parelthon. The massive gates of Nobilis were open and countless people were moving from place to place. The citizens seemed very affable and positive. It filled me with a really positive vibe. People helped each other. A lady dropped a basket filled with delicious and bright-looking fruits and a gentleman stepped in to help here. The lady then thanked him and gave him what appeared to be a mango. Their personality greatly contrasted to that of Parelthon’s, where everyone appeared to be full of pride. The people here were painted with humility.

“Oh my!” a lady said. “You must be really tired!”

A rather short, but elderly woman approaches me

“Where do you come from?” she asks.

“Parelthon.”

“What made you come here?”

I start getting flashbacks of the time during my knighthood and of the princess.

“I just felt like moving over to Nobilis,” I lied. “The people seem a lot nicer here…”

“Well I’m very glad to hear that you’re interested in being a part of this kingdom. Come to my place, mijo! I can feed you and you may rest up inside my humble home.”

I follow the lady inside her home. Her place was really neat! It was well decorated and even had a beautiful grand piano. I sat down at the dining table and she served me a really nice vegetable and chicken soup.

“May I know your name?” I ask

“My name is Cecilia. What is your name?”

I did not want to use my real name at all. There was no point in being Petrus anymore. Petrus is dead.

“My name is Angel.”

I continued eating my soup.

“ I’ve always wished of having a son, Angel. If you’d like to, you can stay here and I will be your guardian. Say, where is your family?”

I stay quiet for a few seconds. I never met my family. Veronica and Donaldo were never my real parents.

“I don’t have a family, I never have. I don’t even belong anywhere. I have no friends. “

“Well, Angel, I promise to protect you as if you were my own son. You will soon find to like it here in Nobilis.”

I finish up my soup and I wash my dish.

“You can leave the plate there, don’t worry about it!

I left the bowl and went over to the washroom. Why is it that I’ve been enjoying solitude more than company? I’m not as social as I used to be. I took a cold shower and I let down all of my tears of shame and agony. I feel ashamed for everything that has happened

I got out of the shower and I went into my new room and found a set of clothes waiting for me. It was light-colored clothing…..not my type. The tunic was beige and the pants were also beige as well. Nevertheless, it’s a nice outfit and it replaces my current torn up outfit from Parelthon. It resembles all of the scars that were left inside of my soul. Rather than grabbing the belt she gave me, I put on the knighthood belt and put on my brown boots. I walked out of my room and found Cecilia waiting for me.

“You’re looking very handsome, son.” she said. “The kingdom has an annual festival with lots of entertainment. You should go and make friends! Perhaps you might already know someone. Maybe you’ll even find a girl,” she said teasingly.

I smiled a bit derisively. Psh, yeah right. I would have to go back to Parelthon to find her….possibly dead. I walk out of the home and head to the place full of festivity and entertainment.
