NFL Equipment: Cleats

Cesar Rangel, contributor

The NFL has gone through many changes throughout the years. Some of those include rules, conduct, and pace. Before the NFL was a running game, there was rarely any passing. This caused many of the players to get hurt and some had to retire. With more and more rules changes to ensure a player’s safety, the equipment has changed as well. There are new helmets that reduce the chance of concussion, shoulder pads now let a player have more mobility, and cleats are different in every position. For example, an offensive lineman’s cleats have a mid to high top ankle support and are wide, while a wide receivers cleats are a lightweight, low top, and narrow. The cleats that are made nowadays have special technology that helps the player do their jobs.
