Facts about Cats

Jesus Castellanos, Contributor

The cat is a small carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and often referred to as the domestic cat to distinguish it from wild members of the family. The cat is either a house cat or a farm cat, which are pets, or a feral cat, which ranges freely and avoids human contact. The cats live up to 2-16 years. Their daily sleep is 12-16 hours a day. Owning any pet is good for your heart. Cats, in particular, lower your stress level—possibly since they don’t require as much effort as dogs—and lower the amount of anxiety in your life. Petting a cat has a positive calming effect.
