The 2017 CBR 1000RR SP engine has been updated with the new pistons that bump the compression ratio from 12.3:1 to 13.0:1 as well as piston rings with diamonds like carbon (DLC) coating. The change with a higher 13,000 rpm rev limiter up from 12,500 rpm. If the euro spec 2016 CBR 1000RR SP made a claimed 178 horsepower at the crank then we can assume the 2017 SP should make just under 190 horsepower. For weight savings, the SP’s engine uses a magnesium oil pan an Ignition cover plus lighter components In the slipper clutch which combine to cut a total of 4.4 pounds from the engine alone. The new titanium muffler that saves an additional 6.17 pounds and lithium-Ion battery that’s claimed to weigh half as much as the lead-acid battery it replaces.

At the forefront of this package Is Honda’s Selectable torque control which Is claimed to have been derived from the RC213V-S. these are not independently adjustable Honda suggests as Is the case with some other bikes like the Yamaha R1 (slide control) and Panigale (wheelie control) but you can adjust engine braking control (three levels) and the quicker shift settings (three levels on up-shifting and down-shifting). The SP also features rear-lift control and cornering ABS.
