How To Identify A Bad Friend

Conflict, bad relationships, friendship difficulties. Two young women having argument. Angry fury girl screaming at her friend or younger sister

We all have those friends that we’d do absolutely nothing without, right? Either you’ve known each other since kindergarten or known each other for one year or two, we all have wonderful companions. There are those that always treat their friends badly though. They are known as “snakes” as all the kids call them. These are things that I have seen personally so if there is something that I missed, leave it in the comment section below this article.

Everything Has To Be About Them – These people love to be the center of attention, whether they really should be or not. Let’s say that your day is going really bad and you tell this friend all about it. They shift the entire conversation to be about them. Kinda like Carrie from Sex And The City when she shifts every conversation between her and her friends to be about her relationship issues with Mr. Big. Kinda like that. It’s very rude and not cool at all.

They Talk Horribly Behind Your Back – No one should ever talk bad about someone else. When it comes to snakes however, they’ll talk about whichever friend didn’t give them a cupcake that day. Imagine you’re just relaxing at school or at some food place. Suddenly, your phone blows up with notifications because your snake friend said something bad to his/her other friends which spread to everyone else. It flipping sucks because you thought you trusted this person. Ugh next entry.

They Make You Choose Between Them Or Your Significant Other/Job – Oof. This one’s hard to talk about. Imagine that you’re making more time for your job so you can try to make more money or you’re building up a strong relationship with your significant other and so everything is going super good. What does your snake friend say when they aren’t getting the attention they want? Make you choose between them and the other options. If it were me, I would be like “hahaha no” and roll away with a pizza in my hand. Go with happiness, not fishiness – Ximena Ortega, 2019

They Always Cancel On Plans – Imagine you’re just chilling at home and you decide to make plans between you and all your friends. Everyone except the snake friend. I understand if they’re busy but if it’s with every single plan that is created like who are you avoiding? I knew there was a reason why my mom didn’t like you.

They Openly Judge Your Insecurities – There’s absolutely no excuse for this. I don’t even want to talk about this but this is journalism. If you talk about your insecurities to your snake friend because you somehow trust them and they immediately start judging you because of those insecurities, run. I had one example, I showed my snake friend my scars on my arm. My mental health is healthy now, don’t worry. She instantly said, “I don’t want to look at your bar code”. Who says that to a person?
