Converse Inc. Is one of the largest manufacturer of shoes in the Untied States.It produces approximately 8.5 million pairs of shoes domestically in 1998. It owns and operates a manufacturing facility in North Carolina and Lumberton, where it produces the majority of its original shoes. The Converse  debuted in 1917 as an athletic sneaker. It quickly became the number one shoe for basketball. By the late 1940’s, most NBA players sported Chucks.

They remain the best selling basketball shoes of all time, even though very few people wore them for basketball anymore. The Converse all star basketball shoes were the first athletic footwear in the industry. By the early 90’s more that 500 million shoes and 56 styles and color ways have been sold in 90 different countries worldwide.
