On Tuesday afternoon, 11 students from Hueneme High’s broadcasting class got a chance to visit ABC 7 Studio. The studio is located in Glendale, California. Not a lot of people get the opportunity to visit the studio because of confidential reasons. You have to have a connection with a person that works there in order to get a tour.

In the beginning of the tour, we saw a lab full of computers that people were operating and it is only busy when there is breaking news. There are different departments in the studio. There is the sports, weather, sound systems, editing, anchors, engineers, and promo departments.

In sports department there are three main men that watch sports and then write about it. They said that they enjoy their job because it includes the two things they like. Writing and Sports the combination for them.

The main weather man is Dallas Raines but unfortunately he wasn’t there so we can meet him. In his place Danny Romero took on the weather forecast. We got to see him in action and showing us how it is done. The green screen has 4 TV’s next to it so that the weather person gets to see themselves perform. They don’t have teleprompters like the anchors. They really have to know what they are doing in order to proceed.

The anchors are the ones that put on the show because without them no one will be able to deliver the message. Their jobs are actually very complicated. They have to make promos for the commercial breaks. There is a lady and we didn’t get her name but her job is to count down and tell the anchors when to talk. It was very exciting to see all the departments and to see how they work.
