Criminology:

Criminologists focus on why a crime has been committed. This is a great career to pursue for those people that have an interest in analyzing situations and trying to figure out what circumstances lead to the crime. After finding information, they use what they found to figure out how they can predict and prevent further criminal behavior. These people will spend some time working in crime scenes, however, most of their time will be spent in a lab or office. With a bachelor’s degree, the salary varies from $30,385-$60,565. The median salary would be $56,750.

Criminal Justice:

Focuses on laws that have been violated and how they will determine a consequence. They process crimes and criminals.

Criminal Justice could be considered to be split into three parts which are: law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. First, law enforcement investigates and then the accused gets sent to court. If the accused is found guilty, they are sentenced and given to corrections.

This degree is for those who have an interest in encountering crimes, becoming an attorney (people who defend or prosecute the accused) or judge (people who monitor the progress of the trial) or working in a prison by monitoring the convicted during their jail time. The median annual salary for corrections ranges from $42,820-$60,560 and for law enforcement it’s $48,190-$61,600.
