The 8123 Podcast

The Maine band is always trying to find new ways to connect with their fans. In January 2018, drummer Patrick (Pat) Kirch, and bassist Garrett Nickelsen, started a podcast series titled “The 8123 Podcast.” They sit down to talk about life and music with fans, friends, family, and other musicians. It’s a way for them to keep connection and it gives fans an insight of what their lives are like behind the scenes.

These podcasts are unique; you feel as if you’re sitting down in the same room as them, listening as they relate stories about their lives. In these podcasts, the guys hold interviews with musicians they grew up with, as well as musicians they have worked with. They’ve done interviews with musicians from older bands including A Rocket To The Moon, Lydia, This Century, and Taking Back Sunday, to newer bands such as The Wrecks, Teenage Wrist, and Waterparks. Each podcast usually runs for about an hour long.

We only ever get an overview of artist’s lives. Even in Q&A videos, they simply answer the questions they receive, and don’t go anywhere beyond those brief answers. These podcasts give the guys and their guests, the opportunity to express themselves without really any restrictions. It’s not something they can do any other way. These musicians can post a picture on Instagram, or a tweet on Twitter, but even with all of the social media services, we don’t get to hear about what’s really going on inside their heads. These chats give them the opportunity to talk about the small details and the big pictures in their lives that we would only get to hear about if we were conversing with them face to face.

Topics go from small talk to more profound subjects. Given that their lives revolve around music, and that The Maine band has gone though a lot in their 11-plus years of being a band, they have plenty of advice to give to new artists. So far they have a little over 30 podcasts and the content just keeps on getting better. If you’re a starting musician, a music lover, or simply a fan of The Maine, i’m sure you’ll find yourself loving the 8123 podcasts.
