The Golden Arches plans to go ecofriendly, making a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that is related to its restaurants by 36 percent and hope that it will succeed by 2030.

The company expects to prevent 150 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere.

That amount is the equivalent of taking 32 million passenger cars for an entire year or planting trees and growing them for 10 years.

There plan to make improvements to areas such as LED lighting, energy efficient kitchen equipment, packaging, restaurant recycling, and agricultural practices.

McDonald’s says its area to tackle is mainly the largest carbon footprint, which are beef production, energy usage, packaging and waste, that counts approximately 64 percent of its global emissions.

The company took part in two pilot programs to fund sustainable raised beef. The first was run by the Noble foundation which focused mainly on the viability of sourcing sustainable beef throughout its supply chain.

The second had the company match a grant to test new grazing processes that could give results about the carbon impact.
