As the people from the Stoneman Douglas high school are still trying to recover form the deadly shooting and begin to protest for change and to band assault weapons, many politicians are thinking how they can avoid from this repeating itself in other schools. Legislators from Florida have already rejected the banned of assault rifles to parkland students and are currently waiting to see if they can get a legislation to expand the three-day waiting period on all firearms and to raise the minimum age to purchase a firearm at the age of 21 instead of 18. Also want they want to increase funding for mental health and school safety programs. Los Angeles politicians meet on Monday to discuss on how can they prevent it form happening in California. President Trump has suggested in training and arming teachers and other staff in schools, but as stated by state assemblymen “A teachers mission in life is to instruct rather than to fire weapons in a classroom”.

California has more stricter gun laws than the nation so its more easy for them to avoid those kind of tragedies, although they still cant put a ban on assault weapons. The board of education has still decided in increasing more funding for mental health services and more research on gun violence. This will give time and allow the schools to review its violence-prevention policies and discuss more of its plans on what to do when an active shooter in on the campus. these are ideas that the board of education hopes on pushing for to assure the safety of schools and to put restrictions on weapons.
