Malibu Bans Restaurants from Giving Out Plastic Straws, Stirrers, and Utensils
February 28, 2018
Last year, Sheila Morovati helped lead a campaign to get rid of plastic straws, stirrers, and utensils in the city of Malibu.
The city council end up banning roughly 65 restaurants, and food vendors from offering plastic utensils to costumers. On June 1st,2018, business will have to use paper , wood, or bamboo instead of plastic.
Diners will have to start to reuse straws and have cutlery made out of metal. Mayor Rick Mullen stated that “This is the right thing to do, even if people will have to pay extra for something to do the right thing.”
MorovatiĀ stated that “If Malibu is doing it, many other cities will follow suit.”Also the plastic trash is ending up in landfills, littering countryside and in the oceans.
This will help us keep all beaches plastic free and also this can save a lot of the marine life.
