How Netflix Began

Ever binge watch a TV show or watch a movie on Netflix? With thousands of movies and shows we all know to choose from, Netflix has originals movies as well. Here is the background on how the multi billion dollar company started!

Back in August 29 of 1997 Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings created a DVD by mail service. Little did both of them know that the company they created would be known over 20 years later.

The name Netflix is a compound word combining inter”net” and “flix” a common slag for movies. Netflix made 5.5 billion in 2014 but the cost of the revenue was 3.8 billion. Through any internet connected device Netflix an instantly stream any of their movies instantly.

The basic subscriptions package allows you to stream Netflix on 2 devices for $7.99 a month. The standard package is now $10.99 a month. The premium package is $13.99 a month.

As of January 2014, Netflix had 6,494 movies and 1,609 TV shows. If you were to watch every single movie and TV show, it would approximately take 34,739 hours. Which is about 1447 days =206 weeks =47 months= 4 years.
