How Sugar Damages the Teeth!

Zuleyma Jacuinde, Editor

The Human tooth has a protective  layer called the enamel which is one of the hardest tissue of the human body. Yet, the enamel is not so hard nor so strong because large amounts of sugar can damage it. Not like our skin that can repair itself, the enamel can’t; therefore, once it’s damaged or gone, it wont regenerate. Sugar is one of the main factors as why caries are caused since it’s an energy source for the plaque. Plaque is the leftover in between our teeth formed by every food or drink that we intake. The energy from the sugar causes the plaque to release acid that dissolves the enamel: This is why it’s very important to floss after every meal.
