When is a half considered a half ? Over the years, many car manufacturers have made mid year car introductions. Some cars that come to mind when talking about mid year introductions are the 1970 1/2 Camaro and the 1977 1/2 Z/28 that was reintroduced by Chevrolet when performances was all but dead in America. But one mid year introduction is still the most famous and most looked for in America today and that is the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang.

The first 1964 1/2 Mustang drove off the assembly line on March 9 1964 and it made its first debut on April 17. The Mustang had a list price of $2,368 and came standard with a 170-cu.in engine. The v-6 put out about 101 hp and it also came with three v-8 options. The first engine option was a 164 hp/260-cu.in. V-8 engine option two was a 210 hp/289-cu.in. V-8. The mother of all engines was the  271 hp/289-cu.in. V-8 this V-8 featured a 10.5 compression it had four-barrel carb with a manual choke and it came with solid lifters and a dual exhaust. The Mustang came with a standard three-speed manual transmission.

It also had a 4-speed transmission that was optional for all three engine upgrades. Ford also offered there Cruise-O-Matic aka automatic transmission as a option for the Mustang but this was not a engine option for the 271 hp V-8. This is why this Mustang is the holy grail of all Mustangs ever produce by the Ford.
