Heavy rains that started off on Monday and continued on to Tuesday ended in the result of mud slides in Southern California destroying many homes and leaving 15 people dead and others still missing. The rainfall came just weeks after the massive wildfires that destroyed all vegetation which made the area more flood resistant.

On Wednesday morning 10 January 2017, about 300 people were trapped in the Romero Canyon area in Montecito located in the Santa Barbara County because of all the debris that was in their way.

Firefighters are working on finding as many people as they can and cleaning out the streets. The 101 N to Santa Barbara will remain closed in till further notice.
