If you’re Mexican then you probably grew up with the smell of amazing food coming from your kitchen. Waking up on Sundays and eating menudo with tortillas, and if not then here are some dishes you should defiantly try.

  1. Menudo – Traditional Mexican soup, made with beef stomach in broth with a red chili pepper base.        Image result for menudo soup
  2. Birria – The dish is a spicy stew, traditionally made from goat meat or mutton, but occasionally from beef or chicken.
  3. Pozole – “Red” pozole, is made with pork shoulder or shanks, red chiles, and lots of hominy corn.Image result for pozole
  4. Tamales – The dish is made of masa or dough, which is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf and is stuffed with various types of meat.
  5. Carnitas –  Originating from the state of Michoacán. Carnitas are made by braising or simmering pork in oil or preferably lard until tender.Image result for carnitas
  6. Sopes –  The small discs of fried corn dough, topped with meat or beans (pronounced so-pez), are easy to make but less common than tacos or enchiladas.
  7. Echiladas – An enchilada is a corn tortilla rolled around a filling and covered with a chili pepper sauce. Enchiladas can be filled with a variety of ingredients, including meat, cheese, beans, potatoes, vegetables or combinations. Image result for enchiladas
  8. Chilaquiles – Typically, corn tortillas cut in quarters and lightly fried are the basis of the dish.
  9. Al Pastor – Shawarma spit-grilled meat brought by the Lebanese immigrants to Mexico. Being derived from shawarma, it is also similar to the Turkish döner kebab and the Greek gyro. Image result for al pastor
  10. Gordita – A gordita in Mexican cuisine is a pastry made with masa and stuffed with cheese, meat, or other fillings. Gordita means “chubby” in Spanish.

Well these are the most common Mexican dishes, and are also my favorite foods. So next time you’re at a Mexican restaurant you should try one of these dishes – you won’t regret it.
