My track and field career started when I was about 10 years old. I remember that I was about to leave school when I saw a flier that said, “Come join the track team!” It just so happened that my mom was also in track, but when she was in high school. She told me several stories of her time being in track, and I fell in love with the sport. It was as if it were destiny.

Once I had told her about me wanting to join track she was so proud and happy. The way my mom looked at me made me want to be in track for as long as I could. In the beginning, though, I was sore, tired, and out of breath most of the time, but with the support of my mom I got the hang of it.

I remember when I had my first track meet, it was on a Thursday, and I got up out of bed feeling like a champ knowing that I would be a winner. Then it finally came. The hour of getting to the track and getting ready in our lanes. I felt so nervous, but the feeling of the wind hitting my face felt amazing. Then time was up, and we started to run. I sprinted up to my friend Alexis, and gave her the baton. As she ran all the way to the next girl, I closed my eyes and pictured myself still doing track in the future.

Track and cross country are great sports to participate in. It’s an amazing feeling when you sprint or jog and the wind hits your face. Now that I am 16, almost 17, I know what I love about my passion for track and cross country. My true love is track and cross country, and I found it and I won’t lose it. I am a runner and I love running.
