Mothers day started in a West Virginia church when an activist, Anna Jarvis, first started a memorial for her mother who had died in 1905.

In 1908, the proposal to make Mothers Day an official holiday was rejected and was just recognized locally in West Virginia. Not Until 1914 when the proposal passed and was recognized as a national holiday. The official day for the holiday is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

Till this day Mother’s Day is celebrated annually with gifts and flowers.
