Local Oxnard rapper who goes by the name “Sirrealist” has been rapping since he was a kid. He stopped by my house yesterday and I was able to get this very exclusive interview into the mind of the one and only Sirrealist.

Who’s your biggest musical influence and why ?

” Eyedea, the way he says things and manipulates words, he’s also dead which is cool”

If you could have someone feature on a song with you, who would it be ?

“Guada from East Side Click”

If you could go back to a certain time in your life, what would you want to go to ?

“None there is nothing to go back to”

Since you write many songs about love, what is your interpretation of love ?

” Well you should have really interviewed me on a Melancholy Boy Friday night… I think, well to me it’s like when you find someone to fill that void in your heart that everyone has because of something really messed up that’s happened to them, and only that one person can fill that void and turn the sorrow into happiness, know what I mean ?”

What’s one of your best memories of high school ?

“Me, this kid Jared and a couple other kids who didn’t really have friends at school met up on the stage and had a whole cypher, this was way before I had a group of friends or anybody in general, it had to be one of the best times of my life”

How do you feel about the local Oxnard rap scene ?

” Haha is that a serious question?… there is no rap scene out here, and the people who do try to rap really suck, it’s like everybody tries to rap to become famous or make themselves look cool when their really not”

What Would you say your style derives from ?

“From true and pure sadness, I wake up in the morning wondering why I even woke up, so instead of doing something about it I write music”

What’s the best to come from your music ?

“My life, if I didn’t make music I don’t think I would be here today”
