North Korea was holding one of our guys as a prisoner. The 58 year old man, known as Jeffrey Fowle, was there for a trip back in 2014. He chose to go there and spread Christianity but, ended up getting caught putting a bible under a trash can and was arrested right there. His beliefs and trying to spread it got him into North Korea’s prison. When he planned the trip he said, “North Korea has always intrigued me”. The U.S. has also warned travelers about going to North Korea because of their laws there but, some people don’t take it serious. This is the story of Jeffrey Fowle being held captive in North Korea.

While Fowle was on the tour, he got caught and was confronted by the tour guide captain. He was luckily able to still finish the tour but, while being in the airport trying to return home, he was taken by officers. That’s when he was taken to a place where he was watched by guards. He was held captive for 6 months and when he was released, a worker from the U.S. department of Defense escorted him to his plane. As he landed in a base in Ohio, Jeffrey stated he felt as if he was, “walking on a cloud.” He hugged his two kids and his wife as soon as he got off and saw them.

He got his job back and has never left the U.S. ever since he got back. I guess being in a terrible situation like that scars you and teaches you a lesson. The work of former U.S. congressman, Tony Hall, helped get Fowle home. He used this as an example of a bad situation and for travelers to learn from this. So if you ever think of going on a trip, plan it good and make sure it won’t be a dangerous trip.
