The Carolina Panthers, a NFL football team, are going to be going through a relatively big change. Cam Newton (the Panthers starting QB) is due for surgery on March 30th. Since he is going to have to go through rehab for the shoulder for five months 33 year old, Derek Anderson, will be filling in for the time being.
There are of course many ups and downs to this new change. The good things are that Anderson is definitely able to run the offense during offseason workouts and minicamps. This also gives Anderson an opportunity to learn the newer plays and gives him the upper hand when he has to be put in for Cam.
Now, the downfalls of this transition is that Cam won’t be able to get as many “reps,” so he will have to learn the plays as they go and his timing on them will definitely be another thing to work on. This will definitely be a beneficial experience for the Panthers, and overall I think that Anderson is more than capable considering hat he went 2-0 as a starter in 2014.
